Special Services of Worship

Special services of worship are conducted throughout the year:

Christmas Eve

Three services of worship are offered. The first service tells the nativity story as the children of the church take on the roles of angels, wisemen, shepherds, Joseph and Mary. The forty-minute service begins at 5:00 p.m. and is most suitable for families with young children. The second service begins at 8:00 p.m. and is intended for families with older children. The service tells the Christmas story through song and liturgy. It concludes with the lighting of candles in the congregation. The third service begins at 11:00 p.m. and is a traditional Candlelight Service including special music by the Chancel Choir, a homily by the minister, and the closing liturgy of candles lit by the congregation. This service is preceded at 10:30 p.m. with special music offered by the Music Department.

Ash Wednesday

This day begins the season of Lent in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.  This special service of worship is held in Christ Chapel beginning at 7:00 pm with a liturgy of the imposition of ashes. Educational material is provided for families.

Maundy Thursday

A special service of worship, including the celebration of the Lord's supper, is held in the sanctuary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday recalls the betrayal of Christ and his commandment to love one another.
