Christian Stewardship

Acknowledging that all of life is a gift from God is the path to becoming his faithful steward. Along with this acknowledgement comes the responsibility of being involved and becoming a partner in the work of the church. It is our faith that shapes the ministries and programs, and the loving response of every member is needed if we are to follow the vision, that so long ago and to this day, inspires the life of San Marino Community Church.

What is Stewardship?

The PCUSA offers the following definition of Stewardship:

•  When we grow as stewards, we share the news of the Gospel in all the settings of work and leisure.
•  When we grow as stewards, we share our wealth and possessions with those persons and agencies in ministry to people in need.
•  When we grow as stewards, we give willingly of our time and abilities in our private lives and in the public order, using the gifts God has given to us to assure that all creation is fulfilled.
•  When we grow as stewards, we assure that the world will remain a gift for future generations.

When we acknowledge that all of life . . . our time, talents, treasure . . . is a gift from God, financial support of the church becomes a priority and we allow God to direct us in ways which support His Kingdom.

While interpretation of the church’s work and the principles of Christian stewardship are ongoing, a Fall financial campaign provides members with information on the plans and needs of the coming year and an opportunity to make a pledge of financial support. All member households are provided with weekly offering envelopes or, if requested, a contribution account number. A time and talent campaign held in the Spring informs members of needs within and beyond SMCC and urges them to pledge their services and join with others in reaching out with the love of God to those in need.

Stewardship is the lifestyle of Christian discipleship!
