VISION STATEMENT

Our vision for our community's youth is for them to experience the love of God, to embrace their identity as God’s children, and to become equipped to respond to God’s love through following Jesus.

SERVICE

This summer SMCC Student Ministries led a week of mission right here for our own local community! Every morning middle and high school students spent their time assisting young children at Vacation Bible School and then headed to La Casa Community Center in San Gabriel for an afternnon of painting, repairing and other work projects around their campus.

We all took a day-off to relax at the beach with La Casa families at the end of the week.  Thank you to all those who volunteered or donated supplies! It was a meaningful week of serving as the hands and feet of Jesus right here in our own back yard.

Christians are called to love their neighbor as themselves  and this call drives us to serve others in need. The middle  and high school ministries take opportunities to serve meals  at Union Station in Pasadena and the high school ministries serve at various ministries on Skid Row in Los Angeles.

 SUNDAY WORSHIP

FALL SCHEDULE resumes September 12, 2010 (No Element September 5th)

Element, Sunday, 9:15 am, Westminster Hall

At Element on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am we have taken the opportunity to use the worship stations as new ways to explore the mystery of God.  What is absolutely amazing though is that the mystery has been revealed to all of us through the person of Jesus.  It is my prayer that each of us take a closer look at Jesus and see what has been reveled and then we can follow God more closely.

Overtime Middle School Youth Group, Sunday 4:30 to 6:30pm, Westminster Hall

Our middle school youth will gather each Sunday evening for a barrel of laughs, great times with friends, and fellowship in the name of Jesus. Each week we will share a meal together, get crazy with lots of games, and grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus. We would love to have you and all your friends to call this home!

LIGHT High School Youth Group, Sundays, 7:30 to 9:00pm, Westminster Hall

All high school youth are welcome to the best hour of the weekend! Yes we have changed the night to Sunday night so come on by with a friend! Put that homework down and let’s us go deeper in our faith together. Fun will be had but more importantly this will be a place that you can ask any questions that you might have about life, faith, God….

 RETREATS

Lake Tahoe, February 2010

Throughout the year both middle school and high school ministries take time to get away from our regular routines, have some serious fun, and encounter the mysteries of God in new places.  Whether it is camping in the desert, skiing in the mountains, pitching tents at christian camp or floating down a river, God tends to shop up in profound ways in the lives of teenagers when we get out of the ordinary.

Sign Up Now for Confirmation 2011 best of class.jpg

Do you know who God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are? What about the Bible? Are you ready to make the step in faith to accept the promises made on your behalf by your patents at your baptism? You will be able to answer these questions and many more by the time the Confirmands are ready to join the church, March of 2011.

"Congratulations to the Confirmation Class of 2010!
Your church, family, and youth leaders are proud of you!"

MISSION TRIPS

Often the high school group heads out of town for a week of mission and service. Building homes and playing with children are a fun way of demonstrating the love of Jesus to others.  Middle schoolers take a weekend to downtown Los Angeles to take part in various ministries for poor.  Through these opportunities teenagers learn to break down barriers between each other and those less fortunate than themselves.

Going on the mission trip this year to the Navajo Indian reservation, in Arizona, was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. We were able to work with the children of the area and see how they live. Even though most of them live below the poverty line, they are still able to find joy within their day. When we were not working with the Navajo children, we were helping the Navajo community by painting and restoring their homes. The people were so grateful for what our group had done for them. This trip really helped me learn about God also. It showed me that he helps bring people together no matter who or where you are from. Also, it showed that even the littlest of things can make a big impact on a person's life, whether it was a smile of fresh coat of paint. I had an amazing time on the church mission trip this year, and I hope that everyone is able to experience something this profound.

ADULT LEADERSHIP

HS_Bobsled.JPGAll of these programs could not happen without the involvement of so many kind and dedicated adults who wish to see teenagers embrace their faith in Jesus. Want to be a part of the team? Ask yourself two questions; 1. Do you love the Lord your God? 2. Do you love kids? If you said yes two times just now then we need you to be part of the fun.
