Mission teams to assist with on-going disaster relief work
are now forming within our presbytery. The first trip
will be February 14 -21, 2007 (including an option of going
to New Orleans for Mardi Gras). The second trip will
be the week after Easter, April 10 - 17, 2007. A third
trip to include presbytery youth is being planned for
early summer and adult leaders are still needed.
Both the February and April teams will be staying at the
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) Volunteer Village in
Luling, LA. This village is doing work in the city of
New Orleans with a priority on mucking out houses. The
work consists of demolition, debris removal, and salvaging
valuables. Some reconstruction and repair work is
being phased in as homeowners return. For those
without building skills, help is needed in the camp kitchen
and there are opportunities for those with computer skills.
Teams are open to all ages 18 and up.
Round-trip airfare from from LA to New Orleans is
approximately $250 - $275. Presbytery funds may be
available to cover expenses at the Volunteer Village,
approximately $20 per day per person. Ground
transportation and personal incidentals are extra.
Please contact the church office at (626) 282-4181 if you
are interested.
